Expropriation Compensation
Expropriation occurs when a municipality, province, or national government acquires private property without the owner’s consent, paying compensation to its owner in return.
Occasionally, the original owners or their heirs do not receive the compensation they are entitled to, either because they cannot prove their right, because they have passed away, or simply because they are unaware that property belonging to them was acquired by the State and that compensation has been deposited in a judicial or administrative account.
Over the years, these funds or rights can remain in a legal limbo, becoming part of the universe of unclaimed assets and credits.
